HOWTO: iPhone 4 iOS5 Battery Drain

The recent upgrade to iOS 5 packed in many features making a giant step towards the future of iOS. One new feature of iOS is iCloud. iCloud is a cloud storage/computing service provided by Apple. With iCloud, you can store mail, contacts, calendars, reminders, bookmarks, notes, photos, and documents to the cloud and access them on any other iOS device. Now, if you only have one iOS device iCloud may not be beneficial. Sure, you will get more space (5GB of iCloud storage) to supplement your iOS device, but there is a downside.

iCloud periodically syncs local data on your iOS device to iCloud. This sync can happen over WiFi or 3G (hard to say). The periodically syncs will have a negative affect on your iOS device battery. I have personally noticed a huge difference in batter performance by turning off all iCloud services. If you would like to give it a try, do the following:

  1. Go to Settings and select iCloud.
  2. If you have an iCloud account and it is enabled, you will see the various services that can be synced to iCloud.
  3. Turn off all iCloud services.
  4. Disable iCloud backup.
Give it a try and see if it makes a difference for you. I know it did for me!

HOWTO: Keep Windows Always On Top

Here is a small, free tool that allows you to selectively keep windows on top of other windows in Windows 7. Wow! Too many "windows" references!

Always On Top Maker is a small program that runs in the background to make any window "always on top", or, make a topmost windows not always on top. Just run AlwaysOnTopMaker.exe, and then you can use 2 hot-keys, one is CTRL-ALT-T, is to switch the foreground application "always on top"/"not always on top", the other hotkey is CTRL-ALT-Q, is to exit Always On Top Maker.

To have Always On Top Maker always running, you can add a shortcut in the Startup folder to allow Always On Top Maker run every time Windows boots up!

Great tool. Small memory footprint. And Always Works!

JOKE

An electrical, a mechanical and a civil engineer all sat down one day to try and decide of which of their faculties god must be to design the human body.

The electrical engineer says god must be an electrical engineer, for you only have to look at the complex nervous system powered be electrical impulses.

The mechanical engineer was sure that god must be a mechanical engineer, for the advanced mechanical systems, the heart a pump, the veins pipes and the tendons and muscles an advanced pulley system.

Finally after hearing the civil engineers arguments, both the mechanical and electrical engineer both agreed that god must be a civil engineer, for who else would run a sewer system through a recreational area!

HOWTO: Help! I upgrade my iPhone 4 to iOS 5 and now my music won'tplay on my phone!

Recently upgrade to iOS 5? Are you having fun exploring the new features but are not concern about other features still working? I recently upgraded and I found that my music did not restore properly. Some songs would play, others won't!

Don't worry. There is a solution.

Following the following steps:

1. Plug in your iOS device in iTunes and select the device. Under Summary uncheck "Sync with this.....". Under "Music" uncheck the "Sync Music"

2. Apply changes and let iTunes remove all the songs, don't worry!

3. Once that is all done all the music on the iOS device should be gone.

4. Now go back and check "Sync with this....." and Under "Music" check "Sync Music".

5. Let it sync and everything should be back to normal!

HOWTO: Put Newsstand in a folder in iOS 5

Updated to iOS 5? Enjoying the new features? Do you see Newsstand?

That's a new Apple app that allows you to subscribe to newspapers and magazines.

If your not interested in using Newsstand and want some extra space, you can put Newsstand in a folder.

Have you tried putting Newsstand in the folder? You can go ahead an try again. Still nothing eh?

Apple created Newsstand as a style app that is impossible to put in a folder. But if there is a will, there is a way.

Simply follow these steps:

1. Take two apps and create a folder

2. The second the apps are in the folder and it’s doing the folder creation animation, drag Newsstand into the folder

3. If you’re quick enough, Newsstand will go into the folder! It's that easy!

Now if you open Newsstand while it’s in a folder your springboard will crash. If you want to use Newsstand, take it out of the folder and you’re good to go!
